Drop Bear Golf
A complete guide to PutterForce — setup, the four tabs, and troubleshooting.
01
PutterForce opens to an unlock screen. There are two ways to unlock.
After unlocking, PutterForce plays a short intro video — tap anywhere to skip. A three-screen onboarding sequence introduces the app. Returning users land directly on the last active tab.
Read, Results, Training and Extras. Persistent tab bar at the bottom. The typical workflow moves left to right — scan on Read, review on Results, train on Training.
The Read tab requires iPhone 12 Pro or later with a LiDAR scanner. Results, Training, and Extras work on any iPhone running iOS 17 or later.
02
The Read tab maps the putting surface using LiDAR depth capture and calculates slope, break, distance and PutterForce from the resulting geometry.
The live camera activates immediately on opening the tab. A rangefinder reticle appears — frame the flag to establish the scan axis. A roll leveller at the bottom of the screen shows device tilt: green within 2 degrees of level, gold within 12, red beyond. Start from a level position.
Tap Scan Green to begin.
Walk slowly from your ball toward the hole. The device builds a surface mesh as it moves. A live elevation heatmap overlays the wireframe — colour-ramped from low to high — showing scan coverage in real time. Continue walking until the mesh covers the full putt line.
Tap Done Scanning when coverage is sufficient.
On putts longer than 25 feet, scan from the midpoint of the green. This improves geometry coverage on both sides of the putt line and increases calculation accuracy.
Scan data — distance and slope — writes automatically to the Results and Training tabs.
03
Results and Training work together. Results presents the PutterForce calculation. Training makes it physical.
The PutterForce value from the most recent scan appears as the hero display. Distance and slope are shown as data cards below it. Adjust green speed using the four Stimp presets — Slow (8), Med (10), Fast (12), Tourn (14) — and the PutterForce value updates in real time.
The Training card at the bottom shows Your Tempo — the BPM derived from the current PutterForce value — and sends you directly to Training.
The target BPM from Results is the operating frequency of the metronome. The goal is a 2:1 backswing-to-follow-through ratio at that frequency.
Runs the metronome at target BPM with haptic pulse and Newton's Cradle animation. Each collision coincides with one haptic beat. The cradle swing arc scales to the PutterForce value — wider arc for longer putts. Tap Go to start.
Uses the device motion sensors at 100Hz to capture your actual stroke. Results display after the stroke: actual BPM, backswing-to-follow-through ratio and tempo match percentage against target. If no stroke is detected within 8 seconds, a manual log option appears.
Die at Hole or Firm Pace. Firm Pace adjusts the force output by 15% for a ball intended to reach the back of the cup. The setting persists across all tabs.
Log each putt as Made or Missed. A running tally and colour-coded dot trail track session performance. Sessions warn at 25 minutes and auto-save at 30. Tap Clear to end the session and commit it to History.
Session history, trends and the PutterForce handicap are in the Extras tab under History.
04
The Library is in the Extras tab. Three sections: technique videos, ebooks, and Pocket Golf.
Drop Bear Golf putting instruction. Videos open in a full-screen landscape player within the app. Tap the X in the top corner to return to the Library.
Curated reading on the putting stroke, green reading and the physics of distance control. Tap any title to open it.
The Drop Bear Golf Pocket Golf game. Tap Play to launch it in the browser.
A link to this manual appears at the bottom of the Library. Tap Full User Manual to open it. A downloadable PDF is also available from the header of this page.
05
LiDAR green scanning requires iPhone 12 Pro or later. On devices without a LiDAR scanner, the Read tab is unavailable. Results, Training and Extras work on any iPhone running iOS 17 or later.
Walk slowly — faster movement reduces mesh density. Keep the device within 12 degrees of level (the leveller turns red beyond this). Ensure you are in adequate light. Wet or reflective green surfaces may reduce LiDAR accuracy. For longer putts, scan from the midpoint rather than the ball position.
Each redemption code unlocks one device on first use. If you have replaced your iPhone or reinstalled the app, the unlock state may have been lost. Contact support with your Putter. One order number — we can reset the code or issue a replacement.
Open the app. On the unlock screen, tap Restore purchase. Make sure you are signed in to the App Store with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase. Your purchase is tied to your Apple ID and will restore without charge.
Confirm Silent Mode is off — the mute switch on the left side of the iPhone disables haptics in some iOS configurations. Also confirm that Settings > Sound and Haptics has System Haptics enabled.
